What is RAiSE?
Horse owners care about their horse's daily needs, like providing shelter, clean water, and a nutritious diet, but we are also responsible for our horse’s mental well-being. However, it may be difficult to accurately recognize the emotional state or affective state of our horses. RAiSE (Recognizing Affective States in Equine) was developed to assist horse owners and enthusiasts in understanding their horse’s emotions. RAiSE is a self-paced, interactive online course designed to help you understand the importance of affective states to horse's daily lives, how they express their emotions, better recognize abnormal states and pain, and how to make management adjustments based on affective states.

Horse owners with a better understanding of their horse’s affective states, can improve their management and ultimately improve the overall well-being and lives of their horse. The course utilizes real-life examples through photos and videos in a variety of settings to provide examples to practice interpreting affective states.

The development of RAiSE was funded by the Morris Animal Foundation.
